The exchange is the most powerful betting tool we offer, and the one most worth understanding before you use it. The key idea is liability: when you lay, you are the bookmaker, and you pay out if the outcome happens.
What is a betting exchange?
A betting exchange matches your bet with an opposite bet from another player. One side backs an outcome to happen, the other lays it not to happen.
In a sportsbook, the odds are set by us. On E2 Exchange and VELKI, odds come from what players are willing to offer and accept, which often makes them sharper, especially on popular cricket matches.
What does backing mean?
Backing is a normal bet that something will happen. Your risk is your stake.
Back Team A at 2.40 with 1,000 BDT. If Team A wins, you receive 2,400 BDT (1,400 BDT profit). If they lose, you lose your 1,000 BDT stake.
What does laying mean, and what is liability?
Laying is betting that something will not happen. You accept another player’s stake, and your liability is what you pay if the outcome does happen: stake × (odds − 1).
| Result | What happens | Your result |
|---|---|---|
| Team A does not win | You keep the backer’s stake | +1,000 BDT |
| Team A wins | You pay the backer’s profit | −1,400 BDT (your liability) |
Always check liability before you lay. At high odds, liability grows fast: laying 1,000 BDT at 6.00 risks 5,000 BDT. The exchange shows your liability on the bet slip before you confirm.
When is an exchange better than a sportsbook?
Use the exchange to lay an outcome, to get sharper prices on popular markets, or to lock in a position as odds move. Use the sportsbook for simple bets and accumulators.
- Laying a favourite you think is overrated is only possible on an exchange.
- Trading: back at high odds before the match, then lay at lower odds later to lock in a result whatever happens.
- Accumulators are simpler in E2 Sports.
Which promotions use the exchange?
- Low Score Safety Shield: up to 40% back on your first T20 Challenge bet on E2 Exchange or VELKI.
- Lucky Number 77777: lucky Bet IDs on E2 Exchange and VELKI earn up to 7,777 BDT.
